What’s on my permit?

(Excuse the shine and tired look... it was a long crazy day, and needed those pics for this post!)
Have you ever wondered what is on someone’s permit or driver’s license? I remember being younger and would always look at them! Still do. Anyways, today I thought I would share what is on my driver’s permit! Well, kinda. I’m sharing how my make-up is!
Truth be told I’m a little behind on the whole driving wagon… I didn’t get my permit until I was 3 months away from being 19. But, I really didn’t have the interest to do so. I’m lucky to have the parents I have to get me back and forth where ever it may be that I needed/wanted to go- on their time of course. Also throughout high school, I have been involved in study programs and band-so I didn’t have the time. After I graduated this year I made it a point to get my permit.
There you go again, all off topic Kayla. Oh right. Here is my makeup look for my driving permit!

Face:

Eyes:

Step One: Who doesn’t like primer? I adore it, mostly anyways… my choice: Miliani Eye Primer. Applied by ring finger. No tricks here!
Step Two: Using the Urban Decay Shadow Brush I simply patted L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte all over the lid. Beautiful!
Step Three: E.L.F. Crease Brush + Urban Decay Naked = Crease Transition Color (Like that math? Me too!)
Step Four: One thing I love more than almost anything in my makeup collection? My Curiouser and Curiouser Eyeshadow palette that I purchase while in Disney! Oddly enough I used the E.L.F. Essential Concealer brush to apply Mushroom (a taupe shade) to the outer ‘v’ and into the crease. Then I blended it using (naturally) E.L.F. Blending Brush.
Step Five: I love highlighting my eyes! #Facehate. Using the ever so popular Wet ‘n’ Wild Eyeshadow Trio in Walking On Eggshells’s Browbone color and E.L.F. Studio ‘C’ Shadow Brush I highlighted the brow bone and inner corner. Possible the prettiest brow bone highlight ever!
Step Six: Ever wonder what eyeliner is a must for my sensitive eyes? Keep going. Almay eyeliner! (No specific name just that- strange) For this look I used the brown pencil. Why? I kinda have the tendency to loose makeup and just pick up whatever eyeliner is visible… so brown works. Outer water line and outer tightline.

Step Seven: See my Glamorous Mascara Routine!

Lips:
Step One: EOS Lip Balm in Sweet Mint is an amazing lip primer! Not so much on the moisturizing part of things.

Step Two: Lips were stained from the day before with Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Hibiscus (great for the super-white-teeth-red-lippy) but over top of that is Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Rosewine <3

Virginia Beauty Haul!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! Today I thought it would be a good idea to share a haul consisting of beauty related items. As most of you know I live in little ole Alabama, but I recently went to Virginia because I thought my Nana could use a support system in the loss of my great-grandmother. I really had an amazing time and I am so glad that the opportunity approached itself for me and my daddy to go up there to see her. It’s been years! Now while I went up there for her, I am a daddy’s girl and I spent a large amount of time with Nana and I do not regret it but I really needed some “Daddy-Kayla” time. During this time we went to a few Dollar Trees ($)… which is my favorite store in the whole world! I know so many people frown on this store because its “cheap” but I find some of the most amazing things there. And what have you lost by spending a dollar on something that you may or may not like? Not that much. I also went to Walmart (*) and a store called Dollar Tree Deals (#).

Anyways everything I purchased will probably be spread out into 3 hauls which will be shared strictly to this blog! Also, I may include a small review for some items within this post and others I may include in a side review later on.

On with the haul…
Wet ‘n’ Wild Wild Shine Nail Polish in Sparked: ($) I have the most nail polishes of anyone I know and I just thought, Well I really need more. So what did I do? I bought more… But I swear I had a good reason for each of them. For example, this particular shade was bought for an accent nail color. There is one nail polish put out by Rimmel London called Pink some-thing another and it’s a shade I wear 90% of the time. It’s a nude-mauve-pink with a fairly shiny finish and I have such a hard time finding a color that looks good as an accent nail. Long story made short… I bought this, it works really well, and it dries fast enough for me to like it.

This picture doesn’t do the polish much justice but it’s perfect and shows up exactly the way it shows in the bottle.

Wet ‘n’ Wild Wild Shine Nail Polish Clear Nail Protector: ($) In honesty… I really needed a top coat. I’m not crazy about this one because its very runny and takes a while to dry. But it does make the chipping of polish minimal. So if you can justify that then this is a good top coat for you. I’ll use it but I won’t repurchase it.

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in Sea Foam: ($) L.A. Colors nail polishes are very hit and miss for me, I would say I have tried all of the shades and about 25% do a good enough job for me to give them a thumbs up. This one is what I decided would look nice on my toes for the final bit of Summer and I am very impressed with it. It isn’t streaky and it dried pretty fast and chipping is minimal. The color is very pretty and I have nothing like it in my collection. So if you see it while out and about it, I’d give it a chance.
Excuse my feet, they are a tiny bit swollen. But I wanted you guys to see the polish after one coat.

L.A. Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in Beach Babe: ($) Again, a very hit and miss brand. I had this on my fingernails and I am just not impressed with it. It takes forever to dry and it is very streaky, but it is pretty. Again, I have nothing like it in my collection but I will be on the hunt for something better! It just doesn’t do it for me. But it’s a stunning color.
Maybelline Dream Mousse Shadow in Ivory Illusion: (#) Have you ever seen these in store? Even when the Dream Mousse blushes were around? I never did. Anyways, I will have a review coming up on this one!

Maybelline Limited Edition Dream Mousse Shimmer Eyeshadow in Golden of Eden: (#) Again, I’ve never seen them in store until now. But I will have a review coming up!

L’Oreal Lash Out Butterfly Mascara in Blackest Black: (*) I was running low on my Benefit They’re Real Mascara and then when I got to Virginia I couldn’t find it. So I did a little bit of research for a dupe and I stumbled across this suggestion and decided it would be a post for a later date! ;)

Milani The “Multitasker” Face Powder in Medium: (*) My favorite powder in the world has been discontinued… thank you very much Maybelline… I hate you. In fact let me ramble on the thoughts I have of Maybelline. The brand discontinued Dream Mousse Blushes and replaced them with Dream Bouncy Blushes… which are terrible in my opinion. On top of that Maybelline replaced Dream Matte Powder with Dream Wonder which is a disappointment to the beauty world. If you have a good product that is a holy grail to so many people then you should leave well enough alone. For these reasons I pretty much keep my Maybelline purchases to a minimum because if I find a product I like and it is then discontinued... what is the point? To waste my time? Apparently. Anyways, I purchased this powder in hopes to replace Maybelline Dream Matte and I will review it very, very, very soon!

Late Summer Flawless Face and Bonus review!

Hello everyone! Today I have a foundation routine to share with you all. I love foundation, but it’s not one of those things that I wear all that often because I am very cautious of my skin. While I love how flawless my face is by the time my cosmetics have covered my face, I would also just love to get by with a tinted moisturizer and not feel like everyone is staring at my acne- my point here is that foundation can clog pores… I try to keep my pores as squeaky clean as possible. With that said, I wore my second go to foundation today and just thought I would share.

Don’t get me wrong Maybelline Super Stay Foundation is still my absolute favorite foundation by far but when I was in 6th or 7th grade, my best friend –Hannah B. was doing my make-up during a Physical Education class and I remembered how beautiful Avon Ideal Flawless looked on my skin. So my ever so popular best friend Hannah S. (who has been featured here on my blog multiple times) told me her mother was selling Avon, which is one of those company’s everyone forgets about, but they were having a really good sale on foundations and her mother had given me a sample of this particular foundation… needless to say I jumped right on the deal and purchased it for myself.

Despite the reviews this foundation gets, I really like it. It’s full coverage, pretty easy to match to your skin tone, lightweight, and a pretty finish (matte but certainly not too matte- flat. It’s almost a natural finish). It features a sleek design and a pump which is awesome. The number 1 complain that the rest of the world has is there is no SPF, which I frankly don’t mind because the only time I really wear any foundation is when there is a formal event, when I know there will be pictures, and when I should look as put together as possible. So SPF is not a big deal to me. The staying power is about equal to Maybelline Super Stay and while I believe me and the rest of the world would love to say that a foundation stays put and looking the same way it did when it was applied for 12+ hours… that kinda staying power just doesn’t exist in any foundation I’ve tried, found, or even heard reviews about.

Anyways, on with the face!

Step One: I applied the moisturizer of choice in the current age and stage of life… Olay Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture. I personally use a cosmetic wedge to apply moisturizer to my face possibly because I’m a weirdo but I’m also very careful when it comes to my face hygiene.
Step Two: I personally used the E.L.F. Studio Powder brush to apply Avon Ideal Flawless Foundation in Light Nude (which is equivalent to Sand Beige in Maybelline Super Stay foundation). I use two pumps directly on to the brush, dot it all over my face- more specifically in ‘problem areas’, and blend it in a buffing motion. I also bring it down my neck just to make sure its blended well.
Step Three: Using E.L.F.’s Essential Total Face brush I dust Maybelline Dream Matte Powder all over, beginning on the nose, working on to the cheeks, brushing another swipe onto the forehead and then elsewhere. Luckily, I don’t use make-up very often so I still have this little guy around. What do you all think of the new Dream Wonder?
Step Four: Can we take a minute to appreciate E.L.F. Cosmetics? I love not only their brushes but the cosmetics as well. I use the Studio Blusher and Bronzer duo in St. Lucia, I’ve had it two years and just hit pan! Anyways I use the bronzer all-the-time, well every time I do make up, and I always use the E.L.F. Essential Blush Brush. I love the angle it gives me for a nice, strong contour. Personally I start the bronzer at the tragus (basically the middle of the ear) and stop about mid cheek. I then take what is left of the brush and contour the jaw line and then the temples and hair line; one side per dip. Forget the ‘3’ and ‘E’ stuff. It just doesn’t work for me.
Step Five: Over the years I have developed much love to blushers. It really gives you that glow you love in the summer (my favorite blush of all time is what I refer to E.L.F. Studio Blusher and Bronzer duo- Blush side), the ‘Baby, it’s cold outside’ kiss, or the fresh, light pink colors of spring. I personally believe it is just as important with blushes as it is to bring out your seasonal lipsticks, nail polish, clothes, and even scents. Agreed? So because Summer is coming to an end (Thank God!) and Autumn is coming to a beginning in just a few weeks or so I decided to reach for Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Blusher in Pearlescent Pink applied lightly with E.L.F. Studio Blush Brush. Perfect for the transitional weather!
Step Six: Anyone here watch Melissa on YouTube… Ya know “Are ya ready for the weekend baybay”? Well if you do then im 100% positive you know how much she loves highlighting… me on the other hand, I don’t highlight too much as far as the facial part goes. I used the ever-so-popular Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki to highlight my cheek-bones, cupid’s bow, and just above my eyebrows with some-no-name-round-short-brush-that-I’m-pretty-postitive-was-meant-for-blush-in-a-stupid-company’s-handbook-but-is-not-at-all-possible-in-my-book brush (:D).
Step Seven: I hear all-the-time how important it is to ‘frame’ your face by doing your eyebrows… I disagree with that statement. Anyone else? No. Okay I’m sorry, my mistake BUT I do my eyebrows using an angled eyeliner brush from E.L.F.’s Studio line and E.L.F. Studio Eyebrow Kit in Medium (the powder side only) and ‘shade’ in the basic shape of my eyebrows beginning in the arch and working my way to the outer part of the brow ^.^ and then tame those long things with a clear mascara… in this case from the following trend in today’s post- E.L.F.

Step Eight: While I’ve only tried two ‘setting sprays’ (E.L.F. Mist and Set and Basic Hairspray) today I chose to the ever so trusty Mist and Set setting spray- which I’m pretty sure is just water with benefits but hey, let me think im actually doing something. Do you have any recommendations for setting sprays? I’d LOVE to know!

Step Nine: Get the rest of your face on girl! ;)

And ladies and gentlemen… that is my Late Summer Flawless Face! Hope you enjoyed!

Welcome Back!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Welcome back? Yes! I have been neglecting my blog and YouTube channel for such a long time and I decided enough was enough! Truth is, I’ve had all these excuses as to why I wasn’t very active that I finally just stopped and admitted to myself that, everyone struggles and I needed to take a break from life in general. I was honestly very unhappy because I am overweight and my health isn’t the best in the world and i just wasn’t happy with life in general-a low point if you will. So I took a break! I took quite a long time off and during that time, I graduated, went to Disney and really found out that beauty isn’t everything I’m interested in. I started this blog thinking about one thing: beauty- don’t get me wrong I still love beauty and makeup and so on, but I also love cooking and fashion and planning and writing and so much more! I found it hard to only limit myself to beauty when as a person I am very broad as to what I like and what I don’t like.

Cut to the chase Kayla! Well, okay, only because you insisted! My blog- and I- are back up and running! In a new and improved way of course! Lace In Ruffles was simply about being pretty and feeling pretty and now its been through enough surgery that now its about being beYOUtiful! To be entirely honest, I barely wear makeup- I love it and I adore it but I just don’t wear it on a daily basis, only when me, myself, and I want to- or on a special occasion! So with that being said- I plan on doing much more with my blog. PSSSST. That even includes details on my diet and exercise!

What? Diet and exercise? Well, yes, of course! So many years I have struggled with my weight and tried so many “diets” and other things that eventually I would give up! But, not this time. I am fully committed because I would really just love to breathe better and not have to struggle to put on a pair of jeans and feel good in my own skin. I started a low carb diet (20 net carbs per day) on July 28th and I plan on doing this particular diet until I get to my goal weight, 150 pounds, or jean size, 12. That’s about 80 pounds to lose or 5 jean sizes. Once I get to my goal, I intend on going on a pure healthy diet. This includes salads and many vegetables. Why? For one, I would rather eat a ton of vegetables than anything else. For two, I don’t wanna feel this way ever again! For three, I want to know what healthy feels life- I have been overweight my whole life and its time for a change!

So what else do you plan on including with this blog of yours? I’m glad you asked! While there will be times that I take a break and doing things my own way- I plan on eventually writing a story! When I first started to learn to write and read, I would constantly be writing songs and eventually I wrote a few “books”. I am quite the interesting cookie underneath it all! So I plan on writing a few chapters at a time and posting them. That’s really odd, Kayla. Yeah, I know but I am a odd person with odd interests and I think its really important to be yourself. So that is exactly what I will be doing!

Did I mention that I applied for a job? I did! Hopefully one that wants me as much as I want to work there! I think it would be very beneficial to my mental health, physical health, personal needs and even beneficial to college! So there you have it. Welcome back!
